Horse Training

Young Horse Starting

A good start is not something, it’s everything. It’s about starting a relationship and developing a partnership. Young Horse Starting at the JR Foundation Station is a 3 week module. It involves preparing the horse for the probable, possible and inevitable.

Young horses come to accept the human, the saddle, the rider, and the bridle – using communication and understanding, rather than fear, force and mechanics.

The training includes:

  • Groundskills, 7 Games on-line
  • Riding in an arena
  • Riding outside on a trail
  • Ridden in all gaits, forwards, backwards, sideways
  • Introduction to a snaffle
  • Shoeing preparation
  • Vet preparation
  • Trailer loading
  • Tieing up

Upon completion of the Young Horse Start, the owner is required to spend time with James for a turnover to ensure you have the confidence to continue a programme, to set you up for success for the future when you both return home. Owners may attend at any time to view the horse’s progress.

Foundation Training

Foundation Training begins once the horse has had a successful start, and training consolidates and builds on what has already occurred in the starting process.

Horses live what they learn and learn what they live, so a solid foundation is essential to any horse, regardless of the horse’s surname, whether it be showjumping, dressage, eventing or pleasure.

Foundation Training modules are a minimum of ten weeks long.
